"You've got cancer"...
... three of the most terrifying words you can hear in a lifetime.
Despite the incredible advances we've made in research and treatment, when people hear those words for the first time they instantly feel like they've been issued with a countdown to the end. But now, more of us than ever are surviving cancer, which is all down to the research and funding-raising that helps us fight.
One of our staff is a student-doctor and she has described some truly amazing stories of courage and determination to beat cancer, shown by the patients in her clinics. Together, we truly will beat cancer.
In 2014, 31% of the new cases of cancer in Welsh Women were due to Breast Cancer.
Many of us at Selah, like the rest of the country have known someone who has been touched by cancer. So, to show our support for Cancer Research and solidarity with those brave women who are currently battling, beaten, or lost their battle to cancer, we are "Going Pink for October". We will be selling a Pink Milk & Cookie and 50% of each sale will go to Macmillian at the end of our fundraising year (July 2017)..
Macmillian is a charity close to our hearts and in the past we've hosted MP Julie Morgan's Coffee Morning in aid of Macmillian. It was a wonderful event, so moving and inspirational and in total we raised £272.72 for Velindre Cancer Center. Not bad going for a tiny tea room with only seven tables!
In the battle against cancer the best weapon we have is early diagnosis. So look out for these signs and symptoms and let's not forget that a percentage of men are diagnosed with breast cancer every year too, so look out for your hubby!

All of this got me thinking about our own experiences with cancer and I remembered all the times we've taken part in the Cancer Research Race For Life as a family.
It is a wonderful way to proactively fund raise, meet truly inspirational people and have a giggle whilst making a difference. So I rummaged around and found our Race For Life medals in the bottom of a draw! I thought they should be displayed proudly and suddenly, I felt my hand itching for my glue gun!
So I came up with a crafty DIY tutorial for you!
Ready for the quickest tutorial ever? GO!
1) Remove the ribbons from the medals.
2) Glue the magnet to the back
(be careful as the metal will become hot).
3) Tie ribbons back on in a bow, trim ends into a fishtail!
Phew! Told you it was fast!
The finished article!
Display your medals proudly and help us spread breast cancer awareness!
